FAQs
What is Crispy Fruit?
Crispy Fruit snacks are 100% freeze-dried fruit slices that are made of real fruit and nothing else. The taste in Crispy Fruit comes from the fresh fruit itself. There is no sugar, sweeteners, or other additives used to enhance the taste or appearance. Crispy Fruit does not contain preservatives and is Non-GMO Project Verified!
How is Crispy Fruit prepared?
Crispy Fruit snacks are prepared using a sophisticated freeze-drying process where water is removed from the fresh fruit in a cold (freezing) vacuum condition, leaving behind the true essence of the fruit in a light and crispy texture. Please visit our freeze-dried page to learn more about how we make our Crispy Fruit!
What are the benefits of freeze-dried fruits?
There are many major benefits of freeze-dried fruit, including:
- Light and flavorful
- Retain nearly all the nutrients of fresh fruit
- Long shelf life
- Convenient—having natural fruit at your fingertips all the time!
- No additives or preservatives
- No fat, no cholesterol
- Low in calories
What are the light, white substances sometimes seen on the surface of freeze-dried fruits?
The light, white substances on the surface of freeze-dried fruits are the natural sugars or other nutrients (i.e., proteins and vitamins) that naturally occur in the products. Because freeze-drying removes almost 100% of the water, even a small amount of natural sugar and nutrients appearing on the surface of the products would be converted to their solid state, which shows up as light, white materials. Sometimes they are mistaken for foreign objects or contaminations by untrained eyes, but there is nothing to worry about. This appearance is an intrinsic character of freeze-dried food products.
Can freeze-dried fruits turn soggy?
Yes, freeze-dried fruits can turn soggy because of the way they are dried. Freeze-dried fruits have a sponge-like character, and they absorb moisture quickly when exposed to air. They can also turn soggy at high temperatures (i.e., inside a car’s trunk on a hot summer day) even when left unopened. However, this phenomenon can be easily corrected by putting the unopened bag in a cool place (such as inside a fridge or next to an AC vent). It's important to note that if Crispy Fruit turns soggy—refrigerating the product will make them crispy once again.
What do you do when Crispy Fruit is no longer crispy?
As a general recommendation, we advise users to store unopened packages in a cool, dry place. To maintain the crispiness of the Crispy Fruit, keep the opened bags in an air-tight container or refrigerate unfinished bags. Refrigeration can rejuvenate the crispiness of freeze-dried fruit to a certain degree.
What other ways can Crispy Fruit be consumed besides snacking?
Crispy Fruit, like any other freeze-dried fruit, is a very versatile ingredient in the kitchen. They are the perfect complement for your cereal or yogurt, and even in baked goods. They are delicious no matter how you serve them.

Why is my Piña Picante changing color?
Piña Picante is a product we offer that is free from preservatives. By choosing to not use preservatives, we can maintain the natural flavor of Piña Picante, making it a healthier and more wholesome snacking option for you and your family.
Occasionally, the product's color may darken due to oxidation. However, this does not affect the taste or quality of the product in any way. We recommend storing our spicy snacks in cool, dry areas away from sunlight to slow down the natural process (oxidation) of color change.
What is the difference between Crispy Fruit and Piña Picante?
Our Crispy Fruit products are freeze-dried fruit, which is crispy. Whereas our Piña Picante products are air-dried and have a softer and chewy texture.
What is the freeze-dried process vs. air-dried process?
Freeze-dried Process—Crispy Fruit is prepared using a sophisticated freeze-drying process where water is removed from the fresh fruit in a cold (freezing) vacuum condition, leaving behind the true essence of the fruit in a light and crispy texture.
Air-dried Process—Piña Picante is air-dried at low temperatures in small batches. The moisture is removed from the pineapples via evaporation, leaving a soft and chewy texture.
Are Crispy Green product bags recyclable?
Our single-serving freeze-dried fruit snack bags are not recyclable, as they have a layer of aluminum and are vacuumed sealed to sustain the freshness of the fruit and to keep out any moisture, which requires us to use this type of packaging. Our 4-pack bags are 100% PP recyclable material. At Crispy Green, we are committed to finding a more sustainable solution to our packaging while ensuring our products remain fresh for your enjoyment.
