Early this month, we celebrated Crispy Green’s 10th Anniversary. It’s hard to believe that it has been 10 years since Crispy Green was born in the basement of my house. What an amazing 10 years it has been!
I took a gamble 10 years ago on myself, and I’m glad that the gamble has paid off nicely as Crispy Green continues to grow. More importantly than the financial reward is how much I have learned from this experience. The personal growth and development during this past decade are immeasurable and priceless.
Last weekend, I attended the First Annual Women’s Harvest Festival at the Catskill organized by a dear friend of mine. The idea of the festival came out of a specific kind offering of support from one woman to another. I was delighted to be able to listen to stories of other amazing women and to share my own with them.
My friends sometimes look to me as inspiration for being a strong independent woman. In fact, that was hardly the case before I started Crispy Green. Although I had a nice position in a major pharmaceutical company, I felt inadequate and uncertain about myself. I knew that I was capable of more and wanted to do greater things, but I felt trapped and frustrated in a big corporate cage.
Crispy Green changed my life. Since it’s my own business, I couldn’t rely on anyone but myself to make it work. At the same time, it gave me total control of everything that goes on in the company. The power and responsibility were invigorating yet daunting at the same time. Facing the everyday challenges, I needed to find my inner strength to keep me standing. Over time, that has become my confidence.
I know that entrepreneurship is not for everyone. But those who have chosen this path would agree that owning your own business is the ultimate way to discover yourself, while building your strength and confidence. I hope more women find the courage to embark on this journey. The world would be a better place with more women business owners.
Happy 10th Anniversary, Crispy Green!
