The Makers of Crispy Fruit Freeze-Dried Snacks Expand on Success of Annual Contest with Even More Great Prizes 

Fairfield, NJ – September 23, 2021 – Crispy Green is now in its tenth year of promoting its annual Halloween Costume Contest and is anticipating the best results ever! The very first contest was developed to associate Crispy Fruit freeze-dried fruit snacks as a healthy alternative to traditional Halloween candies and treats. That first contest generated some social enthusiasm and a handful of entries. With each subsequent year, the number of entries has grown steadily. Fast forward to last year, 437 total entries were received! And when you consider that this is not a simple ‘send-in-your-email-address’ or ‘post-a-comment-here-to-win’ contest, that number is quite significant. The Crispy Green team is shooting for 500 this year! 

How the Contest Works   

To participate, contestants need to submit a photo of the costume being worn by themselves, or other family members or friends (there’s even a “pet” category!). When the deadline is closed, the Crispy Green team reviews all the entries and chooses the winners based on creativity, originality and execution. There are grand prizes in the “human” and “pet” categories, as well as honorable mentions and opportunities to win bonus prizes—for example, if any Crispy Fruit snacks are featured in the photo, they will receive a complimentary coupon for a free 6-pack (MSRP $8.99) and still qualify to win an award. 

To celebrate the 10th year of the contest, the prize packs have been upgraded to celebrate this milestone: Grand prize winners will receive a full year’s supply of Crispy Fruit snacks, an Amazon gift card and some fun branded merchandise. Other prizes include varying amounts of Crispy Fruit snacks and promo merchandise.

‘Crispy Green Go’ Campaign Set to High Gear

Crispy Green’s Spring Campaign Emphasizes Getting Outdoors and Getting Active

Fairfield, NJ – April 15, 2021 – Springtime 2021 is a transitional time for our country as states begin to ease lockdowns and mask mandates. (The NYTimes is a great source for checking the status of all states, showing current business openings, stay-at-home advisories and mask mandates by state.)

As the country continues to open, most of the population is ready to GO!  It’s the perfect time to launch the Crispy Green Go campaign, promoting the positive benefits of getting outdoors and getting active; and fueling all of these activities with Crispy Fruit freeze-dried fruit snacks!

Crispy Green Go Campaign History

The Crispy Green brand was born out of Founder and CEO Angela Liu’s desire to provide healthy, clean and delicious snacks to people who wish to live a healthier lifestyle. The hope is that this will soon be completely behind us as we enter this spring with cautious optimism and a refreshed enthusiasm for our customers to embrace getting outdoors and doing all of the things that had to be put on hold last year. Of course, we always encourage everyone to follow their state guidelines…so Crispy Green Go accordingly!” 

Crispy Green Go Campaign Highlights

One key component introduced last year was the first annual Crispy Green Design Scholarship Award offered to college students currently enrolled in a design program. This year, the scholarship award was doubled ($1,000) and offered nationally. Participating students were provided a hoodie template and the Crispy Green brand guide and encouraged to use their creativity to create an original design to fit the campaign. This year’s winner was Karen Hilsinger of Fairleigh Dickinson University. The picture below is of Karen in her prize-winning hoodie:

Her winning design was then applied to all Crispy Green Go materials, including this stylish active-wear hoodie, in-store signage and featured on www.crispygreen.com.  Super exciting this year is that Wellness Chef and Entrepreneur, Charles Chen got in on the action, providing an inspirational video and this awesome photo of him to give the campaign even more legs! ☺

Crispy Green Awards $1,000 Scholarship to Fairleigh-Dickinson University Student

 Karen Hilsinger Wins for her “Crispy Green Go” Campaign Design

Fairfield, NJ – March 11, 2021 – Crispy Green presented the top prize of $1,000 to art student, Karen Hilsinger for her entry in the annual Crispy Green Go Campaign Design Contest. Karen is now the second student from Fairleigh-Dickinson University to have won the top prize!

CEO and Founder of Crispy Green, Angela Liu, along with the Marketing team, presented the award to Karen virtually via a Zoom meeting.  Also attending from FDU were Todd Rosen (Director of the School of Arts) and Janet O’Neil (Professor, School of Arts).  Karen received a scholarship check for $1,000 and a prize pack of Crispy Green’s Crispy Fruit snacks, backpack, water bottle and other goodies to supplement her studies.

This is the second year this contest has been awarded, and this year it was promoted nationally. The program was created to provide an opportunity to Design students to gain some real-world work experience by challenging them to come up with an appealing and relevant design to be used for an actual campaign. The winning design will be used on several promotional items including the company website, in-store signage, social media and a hoodie, which will be worn by a celebrity wellness personality in an upcoming video ad.

After polling target audience members (Gen Z) and obtaining input from several graphic designers, Karen’s entry was chosen as the top design since it best fit the criteria of the contest instructions. The Marketing Team was impressed with the extra effort taken in providing a presentation of the design shown on a hoodie, as well as Karen’s thought process and research on design trends that appeal to Gen Z. The team then challenged Karen to make a few tweaks from the original concept, providing some real-world art direction and revision work that all new designers will need to deal with when they enter the workforce. Here is the final hoodie:

New FDA Guidelines

 One major area of concern for parents is the amount of added sugar their kids will be consuming. The FDA has also updated their guidelines when it comes to added sugar. The new Dietary Guidelines, which are due out by the end of 2020:

It advises Americans to restrict added sugar to no more than 6 percent of total calories, down from 10 percent. Added sugars make up on average 13 percent of our daily energy intake coming primarily from several foods. “Nearly 70 percent of added sugars intake comes from 5 food categories: sugar sweetened beverages (SSB), desserts and sweet snacks, coffee and tea (with their additions), candy and sugars, and breakfast cereals and bars,” the report says. “Evidence suggests that adverse effects of added sugars, particularly from SSB, may contribute to unhealthy weight gain and obesity-related health outcomes.”[2]
